Dr. Kimit Rai M.D., F.R.C.S.C. President and Founder
Dr. Rai founded Operation Rainbow Canada in 1998. Dr. Rai is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and has been B.C. Board Certified in Plastic Surgery since 1975. He has also been American Board Certified in Plastic Surgery since 1977. Dr. Rai has served as both the past president of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Northwest Society of Plastic Surgeons.

2015 – Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributiont to the field of plastic surgery – Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons
2014 – UBC Distinguished Alumni Award – Outstanding contribution to community service
2013 – Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award for his outstanding charitable contribution to the world as a Canadian.

1983 – 1999 – Chief of the Department of Plastic Surgery from 1983 to 1999.

Dr. Rai is frequently asked to speak at educational symposiums and his work has been published extensively. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. Rai is married with two grown children and is an avid runner.
Al Lane – Member of Finance Committee and Fundraising Committee
Al is a founder of Operation Rainbow Canada and has been a Director since its inception. He is a semi-retired business owner who is actively involved in a number of charitable organizations.
Rakesh I. Patel CA – Treasurer, Director of Finance
Rakesh graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and articled with a regional CA firm to obtain his CA designation in 1993. He joined Dale Matheson Carr-Hilton Labonte LLP in 2005 as a Principal and became a Partner in 2006.Rakesh provides audit services to Canadian and US public companies primarily in the fields of mining, oil and gas, real estate development, biotech and high tech. He also specializes in helping private companies enter public markets, assisting them with the registration process. Rakesh has extensive knowledge of the securities and regulatory environment in Canada and the US, and an excellent working relationship with numerous securities lawyers throughout Metro Vancouver.
In addition to his client responsibilities, Rakesh is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the firm’s standards, training and quality control programs.Rakesh’s professional affiliations include membership with the Public Company Technical Forum sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC and the BC Securities Commission.
Gloria Wong – Board Secretary , Director of Administration
Gloria is a business transformation specialist who leads cross-functional teams on process improvement projects. She has extensive expertise in managing complex projects in the highly regulated financial services industry for global companies. Gloria is currently working as a Project Manager in the IT Department at Vancity. Gloria was a team member of Cambodia 2013.
Gloria has a B.A. from Simon Fraser University as well as the following designations:

- Six Sigma Black Belt
- CIM (Canadian Investment Manager)
- Certified Court Interpreter (Cantonese and Mandarin)
Rose Lane – Member of Fundraising Committee
Rose has been a Director of ORC since its inception. She is a semi-retired business owner.
Doreen Lore RN – Director of Medical Mission Planning
Doreen joined ORC in 2005 and has participated in 10 missions and co-ordinated 8 of them. She joined the ORC Board in 2009. Doreen is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience in Pediatrics at BC Children’s Hospital. She completed her nursing training at the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing.
Her extensive clinical knowledge has developed over her career in both nursing and leadership roles in Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Post Anesthetic Recovery and Surgical Daycare. Currently she is working in the Radiology Department at BC Children’s Hospital specializing in Interventional Radiology and Cardiac Catheterization.
Other Medical Missions that Doreen has been involved with include Hernia Camp in Uganda with BC Children’s Hospital in 2008 and Earthquake Relief in Haiti in 2010 with Rose Charities.
Gary Hanney – Director of Media
Gary joined ORC in 2009 shortly after retiring from a 40-year career as a photojournalist with BCTV News/Global. A graduate of BCIT – Broadcast Communications, he is recognized as a dedicated and skilled photojournalist with an extensive list of awards, achievements and contacts in the industry. Gary’s distinguished career spans many years of a wide variety of local, national and international news coverage.
Gary is currently an independent media consultant and photojournalist. He has been on 4 ORC Missions as a videographer and many of Gary’s videos can been viewed in ORC’s video gallery.
