From Doreen Lore, Mission Coordinator, India 2015
Thanks to all the team members who came out for the pre-departure team meeting on November 10, 2015. And a special thanks to Ms. Janice Wong, District Sales Manager of Japan Airlines for coming out to meet our members and to answer any questions that we had about our journey.
Even though we are a small organization, once Janice determined the value of our volunteer work, she started advocating on our behalf. She explained that she felt that our work aligns with the JAL culture of community giving and spoke to the many departments and executives at JAL. Therefore, we were able to receive preferred pricing on our tickets plus Janice advocated for us to receive some unexpected bonuses -from JAL – all so that our members can be well rested prior to arriving in India and post mission. This is the first time that someone from an airline attended one of our meetings and members are all genuinely touched by Janice’s warmth and thoughtful nature.
Throughout our long planning process, she provide valuable advice and help on the route, rest stops and especially our baggage. Her attention to detail in ensuring that our medical equipment transits quickly and safely through the various airports have been most impressive. She even made special stickers for us so that in case anything gets separated, JAL personnel can quickly locate our baggage with the special JAL logo alongside ORC’s logo. She has taken the responsibility for our baggage literally from Vancouver Airport to Ahmedabad, even though we will leave JAL’s care in New Delhi and continue on with another airline. Thank you so much Janice for all the personal touches that you bring to our trip. It is much appreciated!
