Hi, this is Joy and I’m a Registered Nurse at BC Children’s Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. This is my first ORC mission and my goal is to achieve new skills in air-way and post-operative management of cleft lip and palate surgeries. I am also eager to submerse myself in a new culture by meeting the children from India and their families. In post-op, I really enjoy the chance to quietly observe the children’s status and care for them. I can’t wait to see the parents’ faces of joy (no pun intended with respect to my
name) when they see their kids after surgery.
I feel so lucky and honored to be a part of this monumental period in a child’s life! I am also excited to bond with my team mates as well as Indian medical professionals. Living in Vancouver and being a high energy individual who love the outdoors, I enjoy snowboarding, paddle boarding, wake boarding, and swimming! Having said that, I love a hot climate and am curious about transitioning to long working hours without air-conditioning. Either way, I know that with the support of my more experienced team mates, I am totally up to the challenge. Stay tuned for my updates!
