On June 16, Operation Rainbow Canada Director of Media Gary Hanney attended the Vancouver Talmud Torah School’s Ceremony of Giving and accepted a generous donation of $1,000 to ORC.
At the beginning of each school year, students of the Talmud Torah partake in the Mitzvah of Valuing Philanthropy Initiative. The program helps fulfill their B’nei Mitzvah obligation of tikkun olam (repair of the world). Through bake sales, babysitting, car washes and other fundraising efforts the class was able to $25,000 to be distributed to 25 charities of the students’ choice.
Grade 7 students at the school picked a non-profit, to represent and to explain to the class how ‘their’ charity is making a positive contribution to the world. Students Oliver and Yoel did extensive research on various charities, including an in person meeting with ORC Secretary, Gloria Wong, before selecting us as their charity of choice. The boys really like the fact that we are locally based in Vancouver and we have maintained our 100% volunteer status for 18 years.
Thank you, Oliver & Yoel for your enthusiasm and support! We are touched by your generous spirits and we know that the world is a better place with you in it.
