Hello, my name is Shirley and I am a recent retiree who hasn’t really retired. For some reason, I can’t seem to stay away from the hospital. I’m a casual R.N. at the BC Women’s Hospital working in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit as well as an R.N. in the Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic. I have a passion for learning and my latest passion is mothers and breastfeeding. I became an IBCLC lactation consultant last month.
With ORC, I hope to see health care in action in another country and learning new things. I know our long days and exhaustion will be repaid many times over by the happiness of the children and their families. What do I look forward to the most? Everyone and everything! Here’s my list below:
- Meeting the staff at Kaka-Ba hospital. The messages from Dr. Champaneria and his staff have been so generous and welcoming.
- Flying JAL. Their support of the mission, and their hospitality and generosity to all the volunteers is amazing. As a new member, I’m so proud to be part of ORC.
- The end of the mission when we can all relax.
- The food
- Avoiding the “butterflies”
That’s about it for now. I’m sure I’ll have more news to share once I get to India.
